Last night we went out. After getting a sitter Hubby & I set out for a wild night on the town. Or at least a night that involved adult conversation about something other than the last time one of our kids pooped.
We don’t get out alone very often & usually I’m pregnant when we do. Last night was our first night out without a child in tow since D-man was born. And this morning I awoke with the startling revelation that I am not 21 anymore. I am not even in the 20s anymore. Instead that ship has sailed.
We went out with other kindergarten parents. Yes, that’s right we partied it up with other kindergarten parents. We stayed out all night or at least until 11:30pm when our sitters turn into pumpkins & we realized that in the morning we’ll have kids waking us up at 6:30am wanting to eat or something. What do they think we are, parents? Oh yah, I forgot we are.
Gone are the days of staying out all night, talking about whose dating who, & getting carded. No more do we go to bars & clubs to be seen, no hitting shows with loud music that causes the room to shake. These days we are asleep before 11, we talk about whose got more grey hair, & people only ask for our ids because it’s the law not because we look young. We go out to places where we can actually talk to each other & we still complain about how loud the background music is. I’m not sure when it happened, but somewhere down the line we became our parents.
And so this morning I peeked one eye open as I heard D-man starting to fuss, the other kids charging upstairs to our room, & I wondered “When did I get so old?” I was still tired, had a backache, & a slight headache. I also wondered “When my children got SO loud?” Oh, man were they loud this morning.

This is not encouraging since we have a date night tonight, but ya know what I like to do on these special evenings?
Pretend like we're a high powered couple {I think I'll be a very pompous, affluent doctor of some sort} and we don't like kids.
HA! Let's see how long that lasts!
Amen to that! Except I am in my 20's but I still feel the same!! A crazy night for us is a rousing game of cranium and ice cream….man i need a life!
i like the high powered couple theme, maybe that's were we went wrong. we all went out as ourselves.
