Mr. J wants to know if there is a shrink machine out there. He wants to shrink down to ride in one of his matchbox cars. Driving around on his town rug and driving around the house in style.
He thinks it would be the “MOST FUN EVER!!” He had to shout it, in case I couldn’t hear. I am under the impression he thinks I’m much older than I actually am.
His wanting a shrink machine made me remember how much I use to love the movie “The Incredible Shrinking Woman” with Lily Tomlin. I must have seen that movie a thousand times. I still stop and watch it if I see it on TV.
I wanted to live in a giant doll house and rock all the clothes. The rest of the experience of shrinking in the movie, not so much. But my own private doll house, you betcha.
His request also made me realize why movies about shrinking are popular and marketed toward kids. Just think about all those “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” movies.
As an adult I have to do grown-up things. I might want to shrink to escape them but I do not want to play with them. Also, I feel like I’m shrinking away in life enough as it is. I mean these kids already don’t listen to me, imagine if I were only inches tall?
However, for Mr. J shrinking opens up a whole new world of grow-up possibilities, like driving a car. It’s fun for him to imagine what fun things could happen if he stood inches tall.
*btw the quality on the Youtube video is not the best since it looks like it’s from a BETA tape (remember those??), but I just couldn’t resist pulling a clip.

I'd want to shrink into Barbie's dreamhouse mansion…that would be awesome!
I loved that movie too! And yes, kids would love to be tiny, wouldn't they?
