First Day of October

Autumn Landscape by Vincent Van Gogh

I am looking at the calendar and wondering where the months have gone.  Having a newborn in the house, the band of rabble-rousers who go through a day a lightening speed, the deadlines, the adjustments, and the day to day have all caused the time to fly by.  I wonder if possibly my ability to understand time was sucked away, along with the time itself, with my breastmilk? It seems possible.  Because now I’m looking at the calendar realizing how fast the months went, with each child it’s gone by faster & faster.

Today is the first day of October & one of my favorite months.  I was even married in October.  And while I’m excited to enjoy the month, I still want to know where the year went?  Into a black hole? Is it with the millions of lost socks that ache for their partner, languishing a drawer hoping that the other sock will return but it never does?  Time is like that in some ways.  We ache to get it back, we reminise about days gone by but that time can and will never return.  Instead we have time stretching ahead of us.

My time is already being planned away.  Deadlines that have to met.  My book chapter has to be done in two weeks, my dissertation chapters are being revised, and there are meetings.  Always meetings, maybe I will have a meeting about meetings.  And I’m getting excited to graduate.  But if I don’t make my deadlines than we’d have to push it back & I don’t want that.  It’s been a long road. I’m ready to move forward.

Yet, even though time is being allotted here & there I’m getting excited about the month ahead.  I can see all the time stretching out before me and seeing the precious moments of unplanned time.  The moments that will be there to just enjoy with family & friends.  Eating apple laden food.  Having a pumpkin beer (SO GOOD!!) with Hubby celebrating the years that have gone by, the year we are living, & the years ahead. And all the fun of getting ready for All Hallow’s Eve.  It’s going to be a good month, one to remember even as I look ahead.

I feel the same way as you, this year has slipped by way too quickly. Pumpkin beer? Never heard of it. Where do you get it?

Stopping by from SITS to say hello.

Kids have a way of sending time into warp speed. Suddenly, weeks are flying by and my babies are growing up so fast. It’s a little terrifying. And a little exciting…

Happy Anniversary!

I love October. Quite possibly my favorite month. WHERE does one find pumpkin beer? I love ginger beer, so I bet pumpkin would work for me, too.
Boy, do I know what you mean about time with the newborn slipping away. My newborn is now 9 months old. Sometimes I just squeeze that little body to me and hope I’ll remember what he felt like when he was a baby, because I feel like I’m going to turn around and he’ll be off to college.

I love October too. I just love this time of year. The color of the trees, the cool weather, it getting darker earlier (this is perfect for putting kids to bed early), I could go on and on.

I love October too!!! (i only started to recently though since having kids). My favorite used to be summer to lay in the pool, bake in the sun, and enjoy lots of bbq’s. Now though, there is something relaxing about the fall (I do miss the leaves changing and that “smell” of fall though since moving from New England). October is a reminder though of how fast each year goes by. I totally agree – with each additional child, it does seem to go by even faster!!!! Happy Anniversary! :)

I’ve noticed that too. I thought life went fast before giving birth, but I can’t keep up with it now.

This was a great post. Good luck with your deadlines!
