Apple Butter in Crockpot

by beth on October 10, 2009

I decided to whip up some more recipes with apples.

Apple Butter in a Crockpot

Unbelievably easy recipe for your apples. I had a mix from the Apple Orchard. Fresh & local is ideal.

In the Crockpot went about 12 apples. They were peeled, cored, & diced apples.

Add in 2/3 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar

Now for the spices. Spices are magical in Fall if you ask me. I cannot explain it, something about the mix of spices makes me think leaves falling & delicious food warming me from the inside out.

1 1/2 Teaspoons of Cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon of All Spice
1/2 Teaspoon of Nutmeg
1/2 Teaspoon of Ground Cloves

Then a 1/2 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla & a Pinch of Salt!

Add up to 3 cups of Sugar. Depending on how sweet you want it to taste. I know some folks will even go sugarless.

Mix it all together.

Cook on low for 8–10 hours. It already is smelling so good. Do you smell it wafting through the computer?

I started mine at night, then when I woke up it looked like this…Everyone could smell the Apple Butter goodness throughout the house. Noses were twitching smelling the deliciousness.

Then cook with cover off for about 4–5 more hours, you can also adjust the spice consistency at this time. I used a masher to just break apart some of the chunkier pieces.

After it’s done package it. I put mine into one large jar (no canning) because I plan to use it for other baking. However, you can give it away for gifts this holiday season if you can it & put it into small jars. Or keep it all for yourself!

To recap:

Apple Butter in a Crockpot

12 Apples cored, peeled, & diced
2/3 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
1 1/2 Teaspoons of Cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon of All Spice
1/2 Teaspoon of Nutmeg
1/2 Teaspoon of Ground Cloves
1/2 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla
Pinch of Salt
Up to 3 Cups of Sugar
Cook on low in crockput for 8–10 hours with lid on
Cook for 5–6 hours without lid on (keep on low)
Then jar!

You’ll know the Apple Butter is done because when you pick it up on a spoon it will stay nice & mounded.

You can add up to 3 cups of suagr for sweeter taste. BTW I am out with Hubby right :) He is anti-picture I’m trying to convince him otherwise.

Ok, I did edit the post to indicate that you could add up to 3 cups of sugar for this recipe :)

@Unknown Mami: Definitely pull out that crockpot

@Alicia: It is so good. Can’t wait to make some apple butter muffins with it too.
