My Fall Fantasy Dining Table

by beth on October 21, 2009

I went fantasy shopping. It’s like an enhanced torture technique I perform on myself. I look at beautiful things online, think “Oh, pretty. I want that.” knowingly the whole time I’m not getting anything. It’s like a modern version of window shopping. Maybe it should be called browser shopping, since I’m using Internet browsers to look? Then again, that sounds kinda (OK, really, really, really) dorky.

At Pottery Barn I saw this beautiful Dining Set.

I got all teary-eyed thinking of everyone being able to fit in the same room & at the same table. A giant farm styled table, *sigh* if only I had the space.  Nevermind how I would pay for it.

Right now we are all squeezing into an eat-in kitchen. When we bought the house, we thought “Oh, we’ll probably only have 1 or 2 kids while we live here. It’s our starter home.” Yea, that was stupid. The market fell, 4 kids later, & we are waiting it out in the same eat-in kitchen until we can sell.

Then I saw these eco-friendly recycled glass candle sticks from Crate & Barrel. I mean if it’s eco-friendly it has to be good.

I can see these lighting up our big table, in a big dining room. I am sure no one would knock them over. Alright I’m not sure, but it’s a fantasy. I can have glass on the table!

Crate Barrel could also help us serve lovely food from pumpkins. Why pumpkins? Because it’s fall! Mamacita would be excited since she’s allergic to pumpkins. She’d get to have them without actually having them make her face swell up, bonus.

And because I am in a fantasy. We can dine on Wedgwood, formal dinnerware. Williams-Sonoma has made me a happy fantasy mom.

Especially given the fact that over the weekend my sons managed to break a supposedly unbreakable plate. It’s pure fantasy that I would ever let them dine on Wedgwood (or that I could buy it!).

While we eat we can use velvet ribbon napkins. It is a fantasy feast after all. We need beautiful napkins.

I thought about a table cloth, but even in my fantasy world I’m not crazy enough to think that’s going to work. What if something spills on said fantasy table cloth? Or one of my kids pulls on it causing my beautiful Wedgwood to fall to floor? Remember these are kids who can BREAK supposedly UNBREAKABLE plates! Geez, I am such a Mom. Even in my fantasy world I start to think about possible “what-ifs” that could happen at the dinner table.

I’m a big fan of “fantasy shopping” too. I even load my onlne cart up with all my favorite goodies! This is my fantasy pottery barn table that I’d like to have when we build our forever home (like you said, if the market changes) http://www.potterybarn.com/products/benchwright-dining-table-set/?pkey=csquare-rectangular-tables

Ahhh Beth, I do this all of the time. I think about all of the things I could have if only there weren’t kids around to break everything. But what is a beautiful dining room table when it’s just you and the hubby? Sounds boring to me! ;)

It would be boring, you get use to the kids being around & they are lots of fun! Maybe save the nice dinnerware for after they are in bed :D

I used to do that too. I’d load up the online shopping cart with all these “things”, then close the window when I was done fantasizing.
Altho… I’m never thinking about what the kids would break. In my fantasy land, they’re very cautious children and considerate…
Shoot – I’m back in reality now.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to pull you back to reality, LOL! Cautious kids with fine china around, that is a fantasy.

Isn’t it nice? If only I could love it in person…until then dreaming.

I’ll take the same. Beautiful choices. My kids are out of the house and I STILL don’t have that pretty stuff. Someday.

I love your selections but skip on the tablecloth. That could only lead to laundry!

I fantasy shopped this morning on the “Ann Taylor Loft” website! I am trying to avoid actually going over to their store today to “fantasy shop” a little more! It’s much harder to resist when you can see it, touch it, and try it on!!!!

I fantasy decorate my home all the time.

I do this all the time. I always add to my basket though on the website. everything I want, see how much it all costs then go to another similar website and compare prices… KNOWING I am not going to buy one single thing.

It is definitely sweet torture.

Exactly it is torture because you know it’s not going to amount to taking it home, but it’s so much fun to do.

Ooh, fantasy shopping is such a good idea. I need to start!

Get started. It helps me bide time until the day I *might* actually have that table.

Don’t you just love it when your inner June Cleaver comes out to bite you in the wallet?? At least we can dream.

*sigh*

LOL. I love that line about the “inner June Cleaver”. She really does drive us to do these things, doesn’t she?

Heheheh. I enjoy your fantasy fall tablescaping. My mother pretty much gave up on cloth tablecloths when I was a child – I spilled EVERYTHING. Her solution? She bought cheap plastic throw-away tablecloths.

You mom is a smart lady. I have a tablecloth that I cannot get clean for the life of me. Ugh. Not the end of the world since it wasn’t super fancy, but still.

I fantasy shop all the time. It’s a way to save money.

It does seem like it’s a way to save money. If I window shopped out at stores I’d be way more tempted.
