9 Months

It’s been nearly 9 months since D-man joined the family.

In the time since the day we met face to face in the hospital a lot has stayed the same & a lot has changed. One the biggest changes is I am no longer in school. Today I picked up my cap & gown for the formality of graduation, but officially I was done the day I defended. While heading home with D-man in tow & preparing to get the elder children at their various school times I realized that the last part of my writing, getting it ready for defense, took roughly the same amount of time as my pregnancies, 9 months. It involved a lot of sacrifice and hard labor.

Only I don’t have the afterglow of having a baby.

There is nothing to cuddle when you finish a dissertation. Because trust me cuddling a bunch of paper is not as much fun as a new baby. For one paper doesn’t have that new baby smell, that smell you snuggle in closer to get. It’s like breathing in rainbows. And secondly, the paper isn’t warm, with the softest skin that has a soft fuzziness to it as if you wrapped up sunshine in a layer of cotton candy. Instead it’s paper, it is bland & gives you paper cuts if you try to cuddle with it. Not that I have but if I did try to cuddle my dissertation then I’d have this piece of wisdom babies win hands down in the cuddling & rainbows department.

Grrrrrl! I’d be *making out* with that sucker.

Kidding.

But I might think about it.

Thank you–babies make any photo better.

That is such a beautiful picture. It’s nice to be able to put a face with a name. You’re very pretty. You have that same look that Angelina Jolie had when she was on the cover of People Magazine last year with her twins. Such pure delight in your new baby.

Thank you, babies do bring out that delight. It’s just amazing to think about how we all started off that small & delightful.

I LOVE that picture. Beautiful.

And yeah, I’ve tried cuddling with my laptop, but it just doesn’t hold the same allure.

I agree cuddling the laptop doesn’t have the same positive feeling. It can also get overheated, I mean if you cuddled while it was on. Not that I tried that, but if I had. Hmmm…I better just stop while ahead :D

babies are so much better than disserations (speaking from experience).

And they snuggle back, which is a huge bonus. The babies, not the dissertations.

That is a beautiful picture! Babies are definantly better to cuddle. But the nine months to make them is less work than the dissertation. Be proud of that. And then cuddle with D-man

And the way you start off those babies is more fun than starting off the dissertation process ;)

Oh Bethie…is that you hun? You are breath-taking! AND now YOU got ME all misty-eyed too LOL! I had my yearly OBGYN appt last week and hubs and I do not want to have any more children as we are so blessed already with our two. But, I totally got all sappy being there and oh how I miss the days of ours being so teeny :) It goes so fast. I can smell that baby smell so perfectly still :)

Yep, that’s me. I totally understand the misty-eyed factor, I still have a baby around but you show me a newborn & my ovaries ache.

Congratulations! I am in the dissertation process and know how easy it would be to ‘walk away!’ Love the picture….

Congratulations! Finishing a dissertation is an amazing achievement.

And that baby is beautiful. Mine just turned 8 months. It’s amazing how fast time flies, isn’t it?

Happy Sharefest!
