No other vegetable has seen more slight of hand tricks at the dinner table the then brussel sprout, passing the vegetable off to the dog, sliding it around on the plate to make it look like some of it has been eaten, or stuffing it in a napkin. Anything to not eat it. Which if you ask me is not fair because it is truly a lovely vegetable. I think that it’s gotten such a bad image problem because usually people eat them out of the freezer and after they’ve been cooked to mush, it’s a case of horrible PR.
And on top of that when people make them they aren’t dressing the brussel sprouts up in their Sunday best. Like maple syrup & bacon anyone? I mean come on, anything with maple syrup & bacon has to be good. It’s like a cosmic rule. And the brussel sprout haters in the world will be converted by this recipe. Like my oldest son was, now he is singing the praises of brussel sprouts. While the brussel sprout lovers of the world, like myself (who adores them whether or not they are dressed up) will have a new way to shake up dinnertime.
Here’s a fast & easy recipe to bring your family into the love of the brussel sprout.

What you need to do:
Take:
3 pieces Bacon & Crisp them up (Do this first)
Add about 20 thinly sliced Brussel Sprouts directly into pan with Bacon (You can keep the grease if you like–I do, I am bad, so bad).
Season with a pinch of Salt & Pepper
THEN
Add into your pan the following:
½ Cup Unsalted Butter
¼ Cup Maple Syrup
1 Tablespoon Light Brown Sugar
2 Teaspoons of Cider Vinegar
Continue to cook all of this together until Brussel Sprouts soften up. They shouldn’t be mushy just softened. Serve fresh & hot from the stove top to the plate.

I like brussel sprouts anyway, but this looks really good. Then again, I also am a fluke of nature and like lima beans too, so maybe I’m not the best judge of these things.
I’ve only had brussel sprouts twice in my life. I may have to try this. Thanks.
I might actually eat them this way…and lets be honest – everything is better with bacon – even a shoe!!
