Nutella: Heaven on Bread

by beth on January 15, 2010

Oh, Nutella let me count the ways I love thee.

Seriously, I could eat you on a slice of plain bread, on a peanut butter sandwich, with fruit, and simply off a spoon. Problem is my jeans don’t seem to appreciate the heaven on bread that you offer to me. Ah, but all things in moderation my love. All things in moderation.

Hmm…I’m realizing that this post seems a little bizarre. I blame the Nutella. It has a hold over me.

It’s not the lack of a consistent night’s sleep in…Oh…I don’t know EVER!! Or at least in the last SEVEN years. Maybe it’s because of the child whose foot is pressing against my rib cage or pushing a hand against the side of my face. Or maybe it’s because even when all my children are nestled asleep I have images of Nutella dancing in my head.

Darn you Nutella. Darn you.

If you haven’t seen my post-it notes this past Tuesday, you have to go and look. I wrote one (well, two) to Nutella. Evil. Absolutely EVIL. You are not alone. I just finished a jar yesterday. SO not the way to start the new year! Ah, well.

I have heard quite a few people rave about the goodness of Nutella, yet I have never tried it. It is going on my grocery list this week!

I put it on waffles for my boys. They are horrible breakfast eaters, so this is a bit of a con to get them to eat.

I don’t have any real illusions, though, about it being that “healthy.” I think that commercial is a little misleading with the woman talking about its health benefits.

But, oh so good… ;)

I looove Nutella. I bought a jar this afternoon and hid it so I don’t have to share. With a husband and three kids, I have to hide stuff like that.

I discovered Nutella at 7 years old at my Italian friend’s house and ran home exclaiming I was in heaven. I burst through the door telling my Anglo-uninitiated mom that Laura’s family had this chocolate that you could spread on bread!!! My equivalent of the moon landing :) Loved it ever since. Now I live in a household of teen boys, and a man who eats like a teen boy- and they can devour a large jar of Nutella, with spoons, in one sitting. And they’ve done this many times…

Oh my, the last time I had Nutella was in Europe about 20 years ago. You can bet your boots, I’m heading out today to go get me some. Thanks for the wonderful memories. I mean, who needs to fit into a size 12 anymore.
God Bless,
Cathy
