If I Wasn’t a Four-Eyed Freak

by beth on February 28, 2010

When I was very young I wanted to wear glasses. I thought it was “cool” to have a pair. I have no idea why. Because now that my glasses are the first thing I grab in the morning & the last thing I take off at night I’m not sure I want them EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE!!

I use to wear contacts more, but when I was in my last trimester with Mr. J my eyes got so dry that I couldn’t stand wearing them. With breastfeeding, lack of sleep and the subsequent years of pregnancies, breastfeeding and lack of sleep I have not been able to wear them.

But sometimes I pretend to not have them.

Note the glasses are on my head because right after taking this picture I had to put them back on.

Or I might have mistaken a wall for Hubby & kissed it.

Which would have been embarrassing because let’s be honest I’m SO outta the wall’s league.

Really I would have been kissing down. Given it is a wall & all.

In your photos you look great, both ways. I’m right with you blind sister. My sister is visiting me this weekend and I accidentally left my glasses in her room last night when I was saying goodnight. I don’t want to put my contacts in this morning, because my allergies have been acting up. So, I’m fumbling around my kitchen, feeling my way until she wakes up. The whole world right now is just fuzzy objects. I hope she wakes up soon!

I get it. I wanted glasses when I was young too but now that I have to wear them every stinkin’ second of the day I do not like them. I get so tired of having something on my face. I am not allowed to wear contacts because of some health issues either. Maybe one day I will be able to afford to have Lasik done.

Found you on SITS and since I am also a four-eyed freak I had to stop by. Actually, I fully embrace contacts. I’m SO blind. Like, legally blind. I know all about the sleepless night/breastfeed/dry eye trifecta. But I had some REALLY hideous glasses as a kid and I think they’ve turned me off wearing glasses too much as an adult! Oooh..I had some doozies!

I too wanted glasses, oh to be young and foolish again. I now need them and forget to wear them because I think they make me look old. Us women of a certain age and all that……perhaps if I eat more carrots?

Best pre-tax money I ever spent was on Lasik. I know that there are all kind of negative studies out about it right now but it seriously changed my life. When I woke up the first morning after and rolled over and could see my clock…pure Heaven. I do have some small starburst effect while driving at night but it’s pretty minor. And I don’t like driving at night anyway.

I had to wear glasses starting in Grade 4 and hated them ever since. I was SO thrilled when I was allowed to get contacts. Now I wear contacts that are 24/7 wear for about 30 days. They ROCK! I sleep in them, shower in them, swim in them. Love love love them.

If I had my way I’d get laser surgery.

You look great with or without glasses. I know exactly how you’re younger self felt about glasses. I think I would look cute with them. Not as cute as you do, but I could still pull it off ;-)

I’m one of those people who look VERY different with and without glasses and I’ve ALWAYS hated them since I got them in the 4th grade. I used to walk around the hallways in Jr. High nearly completely blind because – God forbid – someone might SEE me in all my geekiness. Everybody probably thought I was stuck up for not saying Hi when I really didn’t recognize anybody!! Then, in Highschool, I got contacts and it was a whole new world and I was thrust into the realm of popularity, Okay, not really…just in my imagination! Now that I’m apparently perimenopausal, I’m having trouble with my contacts drying out and have to wear my glasses most of the time instead, so geekgirl is back. But I hear Nerdy is in, so it’s all good.
