We headed out for the Memorial Day Parade. To honor those who have served our country.
Flags were waved. Sometimes they may have become weapons. We’re working on that one. And I’m constantly left wondering why everything becomes a weapon? Spoon? Check. Missal in Mass? Check. U.S. Flag for waving in parade? Check. Really, everything can be a weapon of some sort.
I took pictures of some of the different flags on display. Waving high for a land that is called home.
I love seeing how diverse our country is. And for those wondering they also walked with an American flag. I didn’t get it the shot due to where I was standing.
I couldn’t see his face the whole time he walked. I know people on the other side could, but from where we stood it was a powerful image. This soldier walking, the flag before him & his service silently behind it.
I also may have gotten a little distracted while shooting. Kilts anyone? I’m wondering if I can convince Hubby to wear one. He almost got to in a wedding once, but then the couple marrying opted to not have the groom & his men wear them. Missed opportunity.
Classic cars were also on display. They drove veterans down the route. It was nice to see that they had some style for the men who served our country to ride out in.
Before we knew it the parade was over. We stopped on the way back & smelled the “Miracles” (also known as marigolds for those who don’t speak preschooler). It’s not a long parade, but it is a great time. I love that Hubby every year finds out where the parades will be & insists on taking our wild bunch out to see it. The reason is that he wants to make sure they appreciate the sacrifice so many have given & that we all may honor them together.

What a perfect & lovely day! So nice of the hubster to make the plan and figure out the route.
My sister lived in the States for several years and the one thing she misses is the parades. We Canadians have something to learn about celebrating and remembering from our next door neighbours. It looked like a lovely day.

I so enjoyed reading this, Beth. What a touching post; the image of the soldier, silently serving behind the flag will stay with me for some time. Thank you!
“And I’m constantly left wondering why everything becomes a weapon?” You and me both, darling.
And I love a good looking man in a kilt.
Looks like a great parade. I love watching the soldiers, even more, the old vets. Gets me choked up every time.
Looks like the weather was great for you! I love parades. In Utah county we can usually find one almost every Saturday during the summer! I can’t wait until they start.
