I’m a little in awe of the fact that Teresa Guidice from Real Housewives New Jersey filed for bankruptcy. Citing something close to $16,500 in money coming in & close to $16,500 going out. Hey, I am not here to cast stones, given I am living with massive student loans over my own head. And MY decisions aren’t being picked apart so I am NOT going to pick apart hers or her families. I like her. BUT I am wondering how the heck Bravo TV gets away with paying about $3,333 a month to these women?
While the Real Housewives franchise might not be everyone’s cup of tea, although it is one the favorites of Ree Drummond, you know The Pioneer Woman? And she has cows, cows are wholesome so she’s like warm apple pie & that means Real Housewives is totally wholesome (wait was that whole thing too much?). Anyway, I am shocked at how little these ladies are making. They bring ad dollars & viewers who know they shouldn’t be watching.
Viewers whose Hubbies tell them how their brains are rotting by watching it. Viewers who swear it’s sociological research to watch, you know pop culture & subcultures all rolled into one. You know, viewers like me.
I mean Teresa is the Housewife whose table flip was heard around the world! That should count for something. Oh & perhaps there could be some discussion of living within your means & how this whole thing is indicative of the gimme culture we live in, but that’s too real for me, I’d rather pretend it’s all mansions & fast cash sitting here in my bungalow, with four kids & working to pay debt off every month whether I like it or not.

It seems like I heard this rumor a while back and then she squashed it. Now here it is again, and she admits to it.
I would like the chance to juggle $16,500 in monthly income. Yeah, if they are spending what they are making, isn’t that what we call breaking even? Nothing wrong with that in my book. What gripes me is the lack of personal responsiblity. Live within your means….or (if you don’t want to) make more money!
I haven’t brought myself to watch the show as of yet. I do agree with the virtues of sociological research. Reality television seems to be the great common denominator. Found you over at the Blog Frog. Will join your new community mostly based on your personal description. Diluting whiskey is never a good thing.
As my husband always says, “If you spend more than you make, doesnt’ matter how much you make, you’ll be poor.”
Amen, she must have some nasty spending habits.
I admit it – I love the Real Housewives shows. I don’t want to but I do.
This actually made me lol! My hubby thinks these shows are rotting my brain as well. Oh well I love them! Also love your ananlogy! I read about Teresa’s bankrupcty. How embarrassing. You are right they make so much $ for Bravo. I think that # is what they get monthly though. I bought Teresa’s cookbook and it’s great! I hope the money she gets from it helps them out. But I don’t think shed sell as many if she weren’t in the show so I guess they get paid that way as well. All of the ladies seem to have something on the side. All that aside Skinny Italian is a great book anyway. In fact my whole dinner is coming from it tonight!
I like watching the housewives! (Trainwreck) Feel badly for someone going through what Teresa’s family has! This being said- I believe it is a lesson to all of us ( speaking loudly to myself) that we all should live within our means. On a side note ( or frontal) Why is it that women who are going through a financial troubles… have breast surgery? First OC Housewive– how NJ! Interesting!
I am a fellow brain-rotter. I don’t even watch it in front of my husband. The unrealistic lives these women lead make me feel so much better about my boots and jeans. I feel bad that she’s having to go through this publicly – she’s pretty much my fave. Mostly for the table flip thing.
Can’t get enough of the RHs! However, that said, I did get a sense of perverse pleasure when I found out she had to file for bankruptcy. I mean, here I am, rockin’ the Merona and Mossimo, shopping at Tar-jhay, driving my super HAWT Honda Odyssey and living within my means. So yes, it does feel good when someone who is so flashy about dropping $1,800 at the local children’s boutique on clothing that isn’t even that cute has her comeuppance. As mean as that makes me…:)
This does not suprise me. She and her husband pay cash for everything. They are a disgrace to Italians and to New Jersey. Ick.
I actually enjoy watching that show. I am amazed that she is filing bankruptcy! I am a new follower on google friend connect. Please take a look at my blog and follow me back if you would like!
