My second usually runs around in a black cape, it's left over from his Star Wars Darth Vader costume 2 years ago. Around here you have to be quick though, since there are a lot of "vintage" shops that swoop in (I guess "vintage" sounds fancier than used). But you're right it's NEVER too early to start with the lessons on getting great deals--I'm thinking she's ready. Oh, man is my Mamacita ready. Start them early at Value Village/ Salvation Army. There are always beautiful gowns there that have only been worn once or twice.
