When we went on our family vacation, we had the chance to watch the Blue Angels practice. They were in the area for the National Cherry Festival which was starting the next day. We were heading out of town on the starting day of the festival and didn’t know if we’d get to see them. Hubby really wanted the chance to see them though, he loves watching them perform.
When we learned that they’d be practicing the day before, the day we’d still be able to easily watch them & not get stuck in the craziness of the festival we jumped on that chance. They performed over the bay in Traverse City & the view was spectacular. It was a really beautiful day.
Although I must admit all the turning, twirling, diving and other daring maneuvers made my heart jump each time. I realized I could NEVER.EVER.NEVER.EVER attempt to try those things. First, I’m afraid of heights. Second, I’m afraid of flying. Third, I’m afraid of doing anything that requires diving combine that with heights & flying and I’m out. I’d never make a good Blue Angel. I prefer the view from the ground.

[New Post] Daring Blue Angels – via #twitoaster http://theconfusedhomemaker.com/2010/08/...
I think the Blue Angels are crazy…so glad you were able to see them without the crowds!
It was nice to see them with less of a crazy crowd, they still had a good amount of people out to see them practice but NOTHING like an air show!
They are going to be here in Oregon this weekend, and we are going to be out of town. I think that I was a dog or cat in a prior life. While I like the planes, I just can’t handle the noise and the window rattling. We are on a direct flight path for our airport. So we are going to the ocean!
Oh, the ocean is pretty
Hope you guys had fun.
I love the show itself but not the noise
Great pics. I saw them over lake washington while I was there visiting.
Something about over a lake is just cool!
They are just incredible to watch. I remember when they came to Boise in the late 1980′s and the entire week before the actual show, they were flying around the town. They would come so low, that you could actually see the pilots. It got to the point that when they practiced, traffic would actually stop and the people would stand by their cars and watch. It was just fantastic!
Can’t you tell that I still get chills just thinking about it?
It’s pretty amazing to see them do the maneuvers. And you’re right they do come in pretty low, it’s really spectacular to see. My husband (I think) would love to have the chance to ride in one of those planes.

Thanks for coming on over Amanda
The Blue Angels are some kinda awesome, aren’t they?
Totally. Awesome sauce all the way for The Blue Angels.
I’m with you – feet. on. the. ground. firmly. There shall be no flips, rolls or twists for this old girl . . . at least in the air . . . that last part was being ornery, yes it was!
LOL
I’m with you! Not in the air, but hey no one says you can’t do flips, rolls or twists on the ground
They have performed in SF many times and when they are practicing I always freak out because I forget that they are in town and I hear the noise and wonder what the heck is going on, then I look up in the sky and see them.
I grew up near an airport & whenever they’d change flight patterns I’d have the same reaction. So I can relate, when the flights came in for landing it had the same affect.
Should be awesome show. I hope to see their show some day.
You should definitely try. I think it’s one of those things you should do once.
