It was another perfect Autumn day for exploring. Soon our days will get cold.
Very.
Very.
Cold.
We need to take advantage of the ability to be outside while we can, without being bundled up so tightly we look like the kid brother from A Christmas Story.
Why not take advantage of our many local Nature Centers & the great outdoors? And so when our friends ask if we would be able to for the morning, we went.
We were armed with a map.
We had a plan.
We had reserve plans in case those plans fell through.
Although it turns out that we didn’t need so many plans.
We collected leaves, which will be used in our science & nature study. We have books to assist us as we study the seasons & Autumn.
We talked about the change of seasons & how our senses could help us discover in nature.
We walked some more.
We were able to see the start of life. Well, aquatic life.
The kids were most excited about this find.
And we also saw a family of deer. But even though we were vewy vewy quiet it turns out the deer weren’t buying it.
No photo-ops today their darting off into the woods told us.
All & all it was a good day.
A very good day.
Do you have any Nature Centers near you? I always love checking out different ones here. I’ve been sad to see because of funding cuts some are closing or will no longer offer as many learning opportunities. I really loved seeing here the library, the hands-on learning available in & outdoors, the classes they offer (even though decided to “go it alone” this time) & the ability to research what we were finding outdoors.

[New Post] Nature Walk – http://theconfusedhomemaker.com/2010/10/…
As a matter of fact, we do have a nature centre, and I think this weekend would be a great time to go visit it. You inspired me. Great pictures and great post!
I hope you guys get the chance to go!
This is one of my favorite things about Fall. It’s a perfect time to walk and learn about nature. With Winter coming, there is usually a lot of activity with animals getting ready for the cold and there is nothing like finding pretty, colorful leaves on the ground.
Looks like you had a great day out and the kids were able to enjoy the nature walk. Yeah!
It really is a perfect time to get out there & walk. So much is going on & the beauty of the Fall is just amazing.
It was definitely a great day
That sounds like so much fun. I don’t know if we have a nature center nearby, but it is something worth looking into now.
Check it out & see. If not maybe there’s a larger park or other area where you can make your own nature center adventure
I love all of these photographs! So much emotion in them! I think that last one of them walking on the wooden path is my favorite. (Maybe I need to take the kids to a nature center!)
Thanks Angie! I’ve been trying to work on how to take photographs so it captures the moment more
I love this post – I love our local nature center. We also have quite a few county parks that have tons of wonderful family programs too. 2 weeks ago, I took my daughter and her friend to an American Girl themed campfire with nature hike (and crafts, and smores.. this was for me, too!!) – it was so much fun! Not a lot of people in my community dig around to find the programs, but they are a wonderful and economical resource for the family!
The American Girl campfire sounds like a lot of fun! I want to go!! I agree too, that a lot folks don’t realize how wonderful & economical many local community resources are. I can only hope that more people find out! Because they are so much fun & worth the effort
Great photos! We have the Green Briar Nature Center on Cape Cod and the Cape Cod Beach Conservation area to wonder in as well as many other local walks and hikes… Ain’t nature grand?
Nature is Good Medicine!
