Halloween (All Hallow’s Eve) is over & today is All Saints Day, tomorrow All Souls Day.
I love that as Catholics we have the practice of remembering our Dead as we believe they are truly never gone. I remember as a kid this time of year going to the graveyard across from our school & tracing headstones. I thought it was a really peaceful place to visit I also wondered what the people had been like who had been buried there. I’ve also never been freaked out by visiting graves or seeing the relics of Saints, even as a kid. Maybe to others that seems morbid, but for me reminds me to always have hope. Especially as we think of our loved ones who are gone & pray for them as they continue their journeys. It’s very comforting to know that we are all connected.
There’s also the added benefit of comfort knowing that I have little help from them as well, since we believe the Communion of Saints pray for us as well.
Some places I will be & have been looking at for ideas on celebrating these days:
- Catholic Icing : She has a ton of great ideas throughout her site. I love that right now she’s also featuring the Day of the Dead.
- Catholic Culture’s All Saints, All Souls Day Ideas Including Activities, Prayers & Food
- Catholic Mom & a Treasure Trove of Ideas, Links & More.
