Mamacita has been growing in leaps and bounds in her reading skills. Over the last school year she has gone from sounding out words to becoming a confident reader. Today she claimed while pulling a book out to read aloud to me that she reads best when she dresses like the characters in her books. Me thinks she just wanted to wear in a princess dress while reading. After all who wouldn’t want that?

That’s so sweet! it’s so great that she’s reading really well. I’ve been working with my 7 year old foster daughter. She’s coming along little by little. Might need to try this.
That is great that she is coming along! Slowly but surely she will get there.
I really have found that connecting to a kid’s interests and passions really helps keep them engaged in the stories, while you build the ability for them to put to use the skills to read is a great way to engage them. And hey if that means dressing like a princess while reading about a princess I am all in
Also, if you haven’t already read these with her, your foster daughter might really like the Little Bear books {the cartoon Little Bear is based on the books}. Even if she cannot read them all by herself yet she can help read with you {first a few words, then as she builds up more skill a sentence or two, then a paragraph etc…}. The stories are so sweet. My kids have loved reading the books or having the books read aloud to them.
Adorable little princess- lately I have been thinking that most of the parents feel tired to support the creativity of their children. Childhood is the period for investment- the more investment and love we put in our children, the more richer their personalities will grow in future, and the more various their interests would be.
