I really adore when flashing involves something that lifts your spirits and brightens your day versus a trench coat and calling the cops. And I’m a sucker for the whole concept of art being shared in the flash mob style. I’m waiting for the day when I’m eating my Chinese food from the food court only to have an impromptu show bust out.

Oh & can I just say? The people in this video are AMAZING!! They are singing the Hallelujah Chorus, it’s beautiful. Me, I can’t carry a tune in a bucket.

Lego Advent Calendar Freaks Brains Out

by beth on November 29, 2010

Guess who is doing Advent with this Advent Lego City Calendar?

Guess who had kids who’s “brains were freaking right on out, right on out!!” (exact quote) last night?

If you guessed us you’d be right.  We are home to some very excited kids.

Now to figure out how to not lose these pieces as we open the set over the month.  As very excited kids who love Legos also love to play with every Lego they come across.

Sometimes Legos show up in pockets of pants traveling on adventure, in beds with boys who sneaked them in to play as they feel asleep, under my feet late at night causing late night foot injuries or randomly in sock drawers hiding out.  Ya know, really anywhere.

These guys are on special lock-down. I hope they can make it to Christmas.

Advent: I Am Getting Ready To Nest

by beth on November 27, 2010

Later today will be spent getting a few things out for Advent, which starts tomorrow.  After having kids I have come to look at that the month before Christmas, the season of Advent, differently.  When I was younger I looked at it through the eyes of a child and now I can’t help but to see it through the eyes of a mother.  And with the eyes of motherhood Advent feels a lot like the nesting in the last month before giving birth.

All the commotion, the running around, the baking, the shopping, the anticipation in the air, getting the house ready & preparing to spend more time together with those we love awaiting to celebrate the birth of a newborn.  Making lists, checking them twice & feeling wondrous excitement about what is around the corner.  The quiet time we find in the days before childbirth is upon us thinking about the moment we’ll meet our little one for the first time & the great joy our hearts fill with at the prospect, along with a healthy dose of nervousness.

So the more I reflect the more it feels that perhaps we are getting to do all the preparation of nesting before Christmas. The nesting Momma Mary must have done as well. The nesting of a Mother To Be.  We get to take the time to find those quiet moments, to prepare, to make that place in our hearts & homes for the coming Child.  And think about it we don’t have to worry that before the big day we’ll be riding on a donkey or giving birth in a manager we have it pretty easy.
