For the Love of Flower Fairies

by beth on March 25, 2010

in home & garden

Cicely Mary Barker created some beautiful flower fairies artwork that inspires one to wonder if fairies might be among us. They are still available today & the flower fairies live on. We’ve been looking at the beautiful Flower Fairies website.

My daughter has a love of all things fairies right now. Her older brothers also wonder if they are around us, but they are starting to question more.  As what happens with increased age our ability to explore the world of possibility begins to become one of logic versus mystery.   But my daughter is still in the land of fairies.

Mamacita has been especially pleased to find she can learn more about the fairies, get activities pages, play games and a host of other free fairy items.  All at the Flower Fairies website.  For those who have a love flower fairies but aren’t into activities pages anymore there are screensavers & computer wallpaper available.  Also, there is a beautiful free download right now of a fairy glossary on the U.S. version of the site.

Do you have a child who loves fairies?  How about you, do you have a fairy love?

Arcimboldo’s Winter

by beth on January 8, 2010

in in life

acrimboldo winter

I’ve mentioned my love of Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s art before & wanted to share his vision of Winter. By wanted I mean Mr. J & Mr. G begged me to post another picture of the “Super cool paintings with food & animals & stuff” & how could I possibly deny the budding artists in them? I can deny many things, eating only cookies for the rest of their lives or never taking a shower/bath, but loving art is not one of them.

Nativity Triptych

nativity triptch

I saw this Nativity Triptych and thought it was so beautiful. I can just picture it centered on a mantel or maybe a hutch. I love the wood and the warm colors that are used. I can get lost in this style of art, there is a simplicity expressed through its ornate beauty. It’s this beautiful contradiction that I am drawn into, I can’t explain it. Except that I wish more art was like this. Because I can get lost in the art museum taking in the older art that this triptych calls to my mind.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s Autumn

by beth October 19, 2009

I really love Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s paintings. He made painting portraits using fruits, vegetables, animals, and other “unusual” materials (like books) during the1500s. His work reminds me of the fantasy that exists in the seasons & in everyday life. Fantasy I often forget to let myself see or feel. The above painting is his rendering of Autumn. […]
