I can say without a doubt that yesterday was a very good day. We went to the first Mass in the morning and after had a lovely breakfast, complete with a homemade sour cream coffee cake. After we unleashed the joys of Wii bowling as the Wii was for all the children (including Hubby). The children also had their stockings filled from jolly old St. Nick. For dinner there was a perfectly seared and then roasted iron skillet beef tenderloin with garlic smashed potatoes. After we all camped out in the living room for a family movie night. Really not that different than an old fashioned Rockwell Christmas minus the fact that there was no mistletoe, dancing, or fireplaces and the use of electronics. Other than that, it was like the exact same. But I was shocked to learn something new this Christmas. It turns out I am not as coordinated at bowling as my 3.5 year old daughter. Sad, very sad, so, so, very sad (did I mention that it was SAD!! AS IN PATHETICALLY SAD), but truly it is so true. But really Mamacita’s like a Wii bowling phenom, she has a gift, a talent. We’re wondering if there isn’t some sort of championship she could start training for with this thing. I mean there has to be something right? If not then I better start practicing more or be horribly embarrassed by my daughter every time we play as a family.

And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth. –John 1:14

We put up our Christmas tree this weekend.
We wait until the last weekend of Advent to put our tree up & we keep it up until January 6th or the Epiphany. We find that waiting allows us to focus more on the Advent season. We put up a real tree, Hubby would have it no other way & I also love the smell of a real tree. A real tree brings the scent of nature into the house. Of course everyone pitched in to help. Which meant we had lots of happy hands some a little too eager at times.

Our tree skirt, it can be a skirt for a tree or a cape for child as we found out when we put up the tree.

Wooden Garland.

Jolly Old St. Nicholas lean your ear this way…

Handmade glass blown ornament. We bought this from Bronner’s, we have many ornaments from them. Beautiful. It’s an adventure to go to Bronner’s.

I must admit that I love watching the kids help with the tree. Seeing their faces light up while helping reminds me of the beauty found in a childlike love of preparing for the upcoming Christmas season. I also love watching the lights on the tree twinkle in the dark of the room before I head off to bed, when all is silent and I contemplate my own anticipation of Christmas.
